First Ride

After getting our biking gear my buddy Kevin and I decided to go on our first ride yesterday morning at 5 am, the e-mail you are about to read is from Kevin explaining our experience to our other friend Jimmy who is doing the Pocono Half-Ironman with us.
So me and Mike embarked on our first bike ride today.  It was off to a smooth start, with a 5 am start, only I didn’t wake up until 5:22 am.  Mike obviously wanting to get in a workout was sitting patiently at Horseshoe Lake.  So after it takes a joint effort to figure out how to click into the pedals, we head out onto Eyland Avenue.  Mike’s bike has a front light on it that you can barely call a light, and even better I have nothing.   So about 3 miles into the ride we approach a downhill with railroad tracks- when Mike hits the tracks his water bottle flies out of his bike and smashes right in front of me.  Me trying to be the good guy, stops to get the water bottle just so happens although we covered clicking into the pedals, apparently I need practice getting out- I come to a complete stop and do the slow motion crash onto the ground.  I was laughing pretty hard, Mike is probably still laughing.  So when we are done laughing Mike says screw it, I don’t want that bottle anyhow (glad I stopped).  We go to take off and I realize I have a rear flat tire somehow.  Now I’m all excited because I had a buddy who rides a lot show me how to change the tire, and I’m about to show off my skills for Mike.  So the tire change only takes about 40 minutes, and then my pump for some reason won’t fill it up.  Pump worked when we started, just not when we needed it.  I am pretty sure Mike was bored, tired, freezing, and just fed up with watching the stupid kid play with the tire,  so he decided to ride back by himself and get the car. Well of course the minute Mike is out of site, I figure out the pump and the tire fills up.  I ride in circles, just for heat, till Mike gets back- its now 7am- completely shot workout- so we pack it in and go for omelets- So far the swimming and biking appear to need some serious work- good thing we have 6 1/2 months left.
NO MORE RIDING IN THE DARK FOR ME- STUPID AND DANGEROUS
Total mileage Kevin 4 and 7 for me (I biked back to get the car), I can only hope I can read this e-mail on Oct. 3rd and laugh as much as I did yesterday, only this time I will be a Half Ironman.
Till next time, I run do you?
